Messi donó 100 mil euros al Garrahan para la investigación del cáncer infantil

Lionel Messi, a través de su Fundación, donará a partir de este año 100 mil euros (casi 5 millones de pesos) al Hospital Garrahan para investigaciones que ayuden a combatir este flagelo que afecta en la Argentina a más de 1.300 chicos y jóvenes, siendo la leucemia y los tumores cerebrales los más frecuentes.

En el Hospital Garrahan se atienden casi el 35 por ciento de los casos de cáncer infantil del país. Por eso, la Fundación Messi, en alianza con la Fundación Garrahan, formalizó el apoyo a la investigación para impulsar los trabajos en colaboración con el Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, de Barcelona, otorgando becas y subsidios para la investigación.

 

Uno de los puntos clave para este nuevo ciclo es la puesta en marcha del Laboratorio de Patología Molecular en el Garrahan para el cual la Fundación Messi comprometió los aportes necesarios que permitirán acondicionar el sector y equiparlo con aquellos insumos necesarios para realizar las investigaciones. Esto permitirá, en lo inmediato, contar con nuevas herramientas de diagnóstico de los tumores cerebrales.

Jorge Messi, director de la Fundación Messi, se mostró muy feliz y manifestó: “Nos complace poder ayudar al Garrahan en un proyecto tan importante porque sabemos lo que significa para todos los niños y niñas del país. Vamos a continuar trabajando y colaborando con la investigación porque es el futuro para una salud mejor”.

El trabajo realizado será, en algunos programas, también en colaboración con la Fundación Natalí Dafne Flexer quien fortalece el compromiso sobre la investigación del cáncer infantil en nuestro país, especialmente en los trabajos sobre medicina de precisión liderados por Guillermo Chantada, quien es el referente de la Fundación Messi en el Garrahan.

Chantada trabaja en la Fundación Messi desde 2013 y es el encargado de otorgar las becas a médicos argentinos para que se especialicen en Barcelona.

“Este convenio madura una relación que viene gestándose desde hace más de 5 años y nos permite contar con un apoyo decisivo para la investigación del cáncer Infantil de alta calidad con impacto en el paciente”, aseguró el médico oncólogo.
